What information or access do you need to get started?
To fully implement these security measures, I will need access to your Cloudflare account (you can invite me as an Administrator) and SSH/root access to your server or VPS to configure Fail2ban and deploy the 8G Firewall. If you are on shared hosting, then share your logic credentials.
Will these security rules block my real human customers?
No. The rules and configurations I implement are precisely targeted at known malicious IP addresses, automated scrapers, and bad bot networks (ASNs). Your legitimate users will experience a smoother, faster website.
Will this hurt my SEO or block Google from crawling my site?
Absolutely not. A core part of my setup involves explicitly whitelisting "Good Bots." Search engine crawlers like Googlebot, Bingbot, and legitimate social media scrapers will always be allowed to access and index your site without interruption.
Do I need a paid Cloudflare plan for this to work?
Many of the fundamental protections, including custom WAF rules and basic bot-fighting mode, can be deployed on Cloudflare's Free plan. However, for highly aggressive attacks, I may recommend upgrading to a Pro plan for advanced Rate Limiting and enhanced Bot Management.
How quickly will I see a drop in server CPU usage?
Once the Cloudflare rules are active and Fail2ban is configured, the drop in malicious traffic and server load is usually immediate. You should see a significantly quieter server log and lower CPU usage within the first few hours of implementation.
Can you protect a custom-built web application, or is this just for WordPress?
This security stack works across the board. While the 8G Firewall is excellent for WordPress and standard PHP environments, Cloudflare WAF rules and server-level Fail2ban configurations will protect any application, whether it is built on Laravel, Node.js, or any other framework.
