As a Mid-Level Drainage and Flood Control Design Engineer, I was responsible for detailed design calculations of urban drainage systems based on rainfall intensity and catchment analysis. My work included the preparation of engineering drawings, RCC design of drains, and flood control structures to ensure effective stormwater management. I conducted field visits for data collection and design verification, engaged in stakeholder coordination, and actively participated in community consultations to align the designs with local needs. I contributed to developing and implementing strategies and systems to ensure that construction contractors’ quality and safety standards met USAID requirements. My role included assisting in updating program standards and procedures, providing training to project staff, and overseeing local program staff to ensure quality and compliance. During the Chief of Party’s absence, I served as Acting CoP, maintaining smooth project operations and accountability. I proactively identified changes in scope, time, or budget in construction activities, reporting these to the Chief of Party as needed. My responsibilities also involved closely monitoring construction progress, analyzing and reporting any anticipated delays that could impact project timelines, and communicating contract issues promptly with the Chief of Party, construction contractors, and site teams. Additionally, I supported the Chief of Party as the primary liaison with USAID, government representatives, and community officials for construction-related matters, including certifying that the Architectural and Engineering Firm and contractors met contract standards before payments were processed. I provided supervision to clarify technical issues, standards, and specifications with MPDS staff and direct reports and prepared Gantt charts, progress reports, and technical reports, ensuring alignment with USAID guidelines and project goals.
