Why hire a human editor instead of using AI?
AI can be useful for brainstorming and catching some basic errors, but it still struggles with nuance, voice, pacing, consistency, and context. A human editor understands what you're trying to accomplish and provides feedback tailored to your unique manuscript. AI just isn’t fully there yet.
How many words can I submit?
Your query letter should be less than 500 words. Any more than that and it is not a traditional query letter. I allow up to 600 words so I can help you cut the fat out of the letter.
Will you rewrite my query letter?
No. I will not rewrite the entire query letter. I will offer rewrite suggestions for Premium services only, and even then, it will not be for the entire letter.
How fast will I get my edits back from you?
I am usually pretty quick, 24 hours. Please note, I am in the USA and in the central time zone, I do not respond or work in the middle of the night my time.
Will you tell me if my query letter is "bad"?
Yes. If my professional opinion is that it needs a lot more work, I will tell you that so that you can use my feedback to make it stronger and run the revision by others before sending it off.
How do you deliver edits?
I typically provide edits using Microsoft Word's Track Changes feature, which allows you to review every suggestion individually. If you would like to use a different format, please contact me before ordering. I am happy to discuss alternative options when possible.
Are you fluent in English?
Yes. English is my native language, and it is the only language I speak professionally. I was born and educated in the United States and hold an MFA in Creative Writing. My academic training and editing experience allow me to provide clear, accurate, and professional feedback on your work.
