I began my career as a freelance content writer while working full-time at a marketing agency. I soon discovered that I was particularly valued by clients. They appreciated my writing expertise, but they also placed a great deal of value on my reliability and my ability to take direction well. If there are any professional factors that differentiate me from other writers, it's those two details. After a great deal of consideration, I decided to freelance full-time. My first experiences were on so-called "content mills," which provided ample work but at low compensation. This allowed me to build up a portfolio of articles, SEO content, white papers, and reports, which I then used to market myself and find my own clients. I kept pace with the latest developments in content marketing. I resolved to keep my skills and talent fresh and relevant for my clients. On my own, I learned how to publish articles in content management systems, produce web copy, and use no-code website design tools like Squarespace. Most recently, I've added generative artificial intelligence to my list of professional capabilities, gaining proficiency with Perplexity.ai in particular. However, I've also learned a great deal about AI's risks and limitations. I approach AI as a useful tool for research, outlining, editing, and brainstorming. I do not approach it as a stand-in for my writing expertise or as a means of offloading my writing process. When I deliver an assignment to a client, I deliver a product that was written and edited, line by line, by me.

Immediately after finishing graduate school, I worked for two years as a senior content writer at a small marketing agency located in Burlington, Massachusetts. This was an in-office position that required me to create content marketing strategies, manage clients' assignments, write content, and train junior content writers. I also gained skills in search engine optimization (SEO), conducting independent research, writing long-form articles, developing white papers, writing sales copy, creating social media posts, and conducting basic posting and publishing activities through WordPress and HubSpot CMS. Our agency was a HubSpot partner at the time. In this position, I became HubSpot certified in multiple disciplines, including content marketing and content writing. I left the position to pursue my career as a freelance writer.
