Lead the end-to-end creation of a series of photorealistic, "Bento-ready" mesh avatars designed specifically for the Second Life ecosystem. The project required balancing high-end aesthetic realism with the platform’s unique technical constraints and script memory limits. Key Achievements & Workflow: Bento Rigging & Animation: Masterfully rigged complex facial and hand structures using the Second Life Bento skeleton, ensuring seamless compatibility with standard AO (Animation Overrider) systems and custom facial expressions. Optimization & Land Impact (LI): Utilized advanced retopology techniques to deliver high-detail meshes that maintained a low Land Impact, allowing users to wear the avatar without performance lag in crowded regions. Advanced Texturing (PBR): Authored PBR-ready materials and baked high-resolution "Applier" textures. Implemented custom specular and normal maps to mimic realistic skin shaders within the SL lighting engine. LOD Engineering: Created four distinct Levels of Detail (LODs) to prevent the "disappearing mesh" glitch at distances, ensuring the avatar remained visually consistent from all camera angles. Alpha Sorting & Layering: Solved complex transparency issues involving layered mesh clothing and "onion skin" body layers to prevent texture flickering (Z-fighting). Result: Successfully launched a top-tier avatar line that became a "Featured" item in-world, praised by the community for its realistic skin weighting and high performance in high-traffic sims.
