I will draw you an inverted negative drawing of your choice

Each original piece is hand-drawn on paper with graphite, rendering light instead of shadow (think film negative), then inverted digitally. This is known as "negative" or "inverted" drawing, a technique I've been exploring since around 2005. The method is always rewarding, as the result is a surprise even to myself.

You might ask, "Why not just draw on black paper with a white pencil?"

Good question. White charcoal or colored pencil doesn't tend to have the hardness of graphite. By sticking with the latter, I can achieve more detail. There's also just a bit of magic in the way the values and colors invert - yes, even the tone of the paper matters. As light becomes dark and dark becomes light, a cream-toned paper will turn a tad blue-green. I can increase the saturation of this natural hue, or we can choose whatever color you have in mind.

Final product is monotone and delivered digitally as a hi-res file. For an extra fee, I will ship the original pencil negative.
