Sometimes an idea has more power when you offer a window into the creative and thinking process. Sure, we all love the Mona Lisa, but have you seen Da'Vinci's sketchbooks?! They are so engaging and inspiring, in a different way perhaps, than Mona Lisa could ever be.
There is also something to say about how relatable informal graphics can be when presenting a new idea or engaging a new audience. The organic, imperfect and spontaneous feel of a sketchbook page gives signs of a mind at work: neurons are firing, concepts and ideas are being generated from scratch.
Beyond presentation, you might make new connections to your topic just by looking at a series of sketches, formulas, written and drawn concepts all next to one another. As a designer, this is how we come up with original ideas! Just like a writer can use "stream of consciousness" writing to discover new directions, so can you explore the depths of any topic by producing and/or observing an expertly created process page.

I've been working creatively for over two decades, specializing in various media including drawing and painting, 2-dimensional mixed media, and graphic design.
